Relax by the pool or sip a cocktail. Later that evening you’ll be welcomed with a cultural welcome dinner featuring authentic Ghanaian cuisine (can you say Jollof rice?) Day 3 – Accra City Tour “Ye wo krom” (We’re in town) Following breakfast, you will explore Jamestown, High Street and the lighthouse. This 139-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarize her history. You'll visit the W. E. B. Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, the Independence/ Black Star Square, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. After lunch you will have the opportunity to use your bargaining skills to shop from an one of Accra's premier destinations for artisanal jewelry, clothing and artifacts . This evening after enjoying a meal together you will be introduced to Ghana's nightlife. Day 4 - Chale Wote Festival - Art, Fashion, Music Start your day off with an early breakfast or sleep in and start your day with lunch at one of Tamaya's favorite spots where you can sip some of the best tea in tow before we head to the festival and you will loose yourself in the crowd. Pause...before we hit the festival let's check out the fashion and fine art of local Ghanian Artist and other African artist. Day 5 – Brunch, Beach “Yen ye abu-sua fo” (We are family) Start your day off with Sunday brunch. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Day 6 - Cape Coast Slave Dungeon After breakfast we will check out of the hotel for a scenic drive to Cape Coast, known for its role in the Atlantic slave trade. We’ll visit the Cape Coast Castle, built in 1653 and the Door of No Return, which is believed to be one of the final exit points for many men, women and children from Africa being brought to the Americas. You’ll walk away with an experience and history lesson you won’t get in any textbook. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Finish your day by the bonfire at a nearby beach and reflect in a traditional ceremony. Day 7 – Kakum National Park and Cooking Class “Maa-kye” (Good morning) Rise and shine for a drive through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Kakum is one of only two canopy walks on the continent and home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species, as well as, species of butterflies, flora, and fauna unknown to North America. It’s also home to the famous hanging canopy. You can choose between the walking the canopy or the guided nature walk through the forest to discover Kakum’s exotic plant life and their medicinal values. Later in the afternoon you can have dinner at your leisure and chill at our beach side property in Cape Coast. Day 8 – Depart to USA “Nan-te Yie” (Safe Journey) In Ghana there’s no Twi word for “goodbye,” and SAS believes in, "see you later." On this bittersweet day, we’ll escort you to the airport for your safe return. But no worries, you’ll have a plethora of mental memories to ponder on during the flight back home and we’ll be sure to share photos with you. |
